Turrilites lewesiensis was named by Spath (1926). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Paraturrilites lewesiensis by Benavides-Caceres (1956); it was recombined as Mariella (Mariella) lewesiensis by Atabekyan (1985); it was recombined as Mariella lewesiensis by Mosavinia and Wilmsen (2017).
