Turrilites acutus was named by Passy (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenomanian; Cosmopolitan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Turrilites (Turrilites) acutus by Förster (1975), Atabekyan (1985), Zaborski (1985), Howarth (1985), Kennedy et al. (1988) and Kennedy (1994).
