Taxonomy
Carcharias angustidens was named by Agassiz (1835).

It was recombined as Carcharodon angustidens by Agassiz (1843), Gibbes (1847), Cope (1868), Davis (1888), Hector (1894), Weiler (1938), Leriche (1942), Applegate and Espinosa-Arrubarrena (1996) and Gottfried and Fordyce (2000); it was synonymized subjectively with Carcharodon auriculatus by Chapman and Pritchard (1904) and Chapman (1918); it was recombined as Carcharodon (Procarcharodon) angustidens by Thurmond and Jones (1981); it was recombined as Otodus (Carcharocles) angustidens by Szabo et al. (2017); it was recombined as Carcharocles angustidens by Miller et al. (2021).
