Neocassandra was named by Daniltshenko (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: T Pale Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Myctophiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sardinioidinae by Prokofiev (2006).
