Eobranisamys javierpradoi was named by Boivin et al. (2017). Its type specimen is MUSM 1897, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CTA-27, which is in a Priabonian/Rupelian terrestrial claystone in the Pozo Formation of Peru.
