Taxonomy
Paulacoutomys paulista was named by Vucetich et al. (1993). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fazenda Santa Fe, which is in a Deseadan lacustrine shale/claystone in Brazil. It is the type species of Paulacoutomys.
