Saurorhynchus anningae was named by Maxwell and Stumpf (2017). Its type specimen is NHMUK PV P 3791, a skull, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Lyme Regis, Enniskillen collection, which is in a Sinemurian marine horizon in the United Kingdom.
