Taxonomy
Histiophorus parvulus was named by Marsh (1869). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Farmingdale, which is in a Bartonian marine sandstone in the Shark River Formation of New Jersey.

It was recombined as Istiophorus parvulus by Hay (1902) and Rapp (1946).
