It was reranked as Megaceroides by Azzaroli and Mazza (1992) and Grubb (2000); it was synonymized subjectively with Megaloceros by Gentry (2010).

It was assigned to Megaloceros by Joleaud (1914); to Cervidae by Azzaroli and Mazza (1992); and to Cervini by Grubb (2000).
