Taxonomy
Leptosphinctes (Cleistosphinctes) balchanense was named by Besnosov (1993). Its type specimen is VNIGRI 115/2961 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chaloi Well, Bolshoi Balkhan (lower Chaloi Fm), which is in a Subfurcatum marine horizon in the Chaloi Formation of Turkmenistan.
