Taxonomy
Leptosphinctes (Cleistosphinctes) nikanorovae was named by Besnosov (1993). Its type specimen is VNIGRI 115/1388 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Khodz River, North Ossetia (lower upper Dzhor Fm), which is in a Subfurcatum marine horizon in the Dzhor Formation of the Russian Federation.
