Taxonomy
Pleurophorus similis was named by Girty (1927).

It was synonymized subjectively with Pleurophorus bregeri by Ciriacks (1963); it was synonymized subjectively with Permophorus bregeri by Hofmann and Hautmann (2013) and Hofmann et al. (2013); it was recombined as Permophorus similis by Hautmann et al. (2015) and Foster et al. (2019).
