Taxonomy
Choiaella was named by Rigby and Hou (1995) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1214]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Choiaella scotica.

It was assigned to Choiidae by Rigby and Hou (1995); to Demospongia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Porifera by Bambach et al. (2007).
