Barrandeops lebesus
Taxonomy
Phacops lebesus was named by Chatterton et al. (2006). Its type specimen is UA 13304, an exoskeleton (enrolled), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zguilma section, Timrhanrhart Fm, Upper Bed - ZGEE3 , which is in an Eifelian coastal shale/limestone in the Timrhanrhart Formation of Morocco.
It was recombined as Barrandeops lebesus by McKellar and Chatterton (2009).

Chatterton 2009 | Short row of large, tall tubercles on base of visual surface; sculpture on glabella consisting of coarse tubercles; sculpture on occipital ring of numerous small tubercles on raised rim at back of occipital ring and fewer tubercles on lenticular portion of ring farther forward; large gap between tuberculose sculpture of free cheek and base of eye. Eye with 19 vertical rows of up to 6 lenses per row. Frontal lobe of glabella only moderately divergent forward at 60-70°. Sl shallow medially in front of lenticular median portion of L 1. Postocular pad comparatively large, low and with very few tubercles. |
