Platymetopus illaenoides was named by Nieszkowski (1857). It is the type species of Lichas (Leiolichas).
It was recombined as Lichas (Leiolichas) illaenoides by Schmidt (1885); it was recombined as Leiolichas illaenoides by Warburg (1939).
