Taxonomy
Ellipsocoryphe elliptica was named by Lu (1975). Its type specimen is NI 16932, a cephalon/head (cranidiium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Sphaerocoryphe (Hemisphaerocoryphe) elliptica by Zhou et al. (1998); it was recombined as Hemisphaerocoryphe elliptica by Zhou et al. (2014).
