Decoroproetus farragatus was named by Howells (1982). Its type specimen is SM A74613, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Newlands, which is in an Aeronian marine siltstone/sandstone in the Newlands Farm Formation of the United Kingdom.
