Acernaspis superciliexcelsis was named by Howells (1982). Its type specimen is BM In23571, an exoskeleton, and it is a mold. Its type locality is Newlands, which is in an Aeronian marine siltstone/sandstone in the Newlands Farm Formation of the United Kingdom.
