Bramoides was named by Casier (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. Its type is Bramoides brieni.

It was assigned to Bramidae by Casier (1966); and to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002).

E. Casier 1966Bramide de grande taille, connu seulement par le crane et une vertebre. Crane caracterise par sa forme assez massive et haute, a voute large et presentant une importante crete sagittale dont la hauteur maxima se situe au tiers anterieur et est egale au tiers de sa longueur totale. Cretes parietales legerement divergentes et peu saillantes, mais se prolongement en avant jusqu'à la distance du milieu des orbites, ou elles delimitent deux aires des frontaux : une aire mesiale tres deprimee et une autre, marginale, a peu pres plane mais a plan oblique surplombant les orbites et ornee de gros plis. Epiotiques importants et saillants vers l’arriere, mais peu fixes aux pterotiques et parietaux. Fosse pour l’hyomandibulaire tres importante mais nettementdivisee. Exoccipitaux tres intimement unis, a grande facette articulaire et surplombant quelque peu l’extremite posterieure du basioccipital. Parasphenoide tres arque vers le bas. Vomer large et a dentition villiforme.
