Lichas (Homolichas) melmerbiensis was named by Reed (1907). It is the type species of Otarozoum.
It was recombined as Conolichas melmerbiensis by Tripp (1958); it was recombined as Otarozoum melmerbiensis by Thomas and Holloway (1988).
