Taxonomy
Ampyx tumidus was named by Forbes (1849). Its type specimen is GSM 35651 [lectotype selected by Whittington 1968], a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Lonchodomas tumidus by Whittington (1968).
