Taxonomy
Carangopsis was named by Agassiz (1834) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l Sepkoski's reference number: 718,771]. Its type is Carangopsis maximus.

It was assigned to Scomberoidei by Agassiz (1835); to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pomatomidae by Carnevale et al. (2014) and Bannikov (2014).
