Paradoxides boltoni was named by Bigsby (1825) [genus name misspelled in paper as "Paradoxus of Brongniart"]. It is not extant. It is the type species of Arctinurus.

It was recombined as Platynotus boltoni by Conrad (1838); it was recombined as Lichas boltoni by Hall (1852); it was recombined as Lichas (Oncholichas) boltoni by Schmidt (1885); it was recombined as Lichas (Pterolichas) boltoni by Gürich (1901); it was recombined as Lichas (Arctinurus) boltoni by Reed (1902); it was recombined as Arctinurus boltoni by Castelnau (1843) and Thomas and Holloway (1988).
