Taxonomy
Lichas stmathiae was named by Schmidt (1885) [originally spelled Lichas St. Mathiae]. Its type specimen is CNIGR 92/11101 [lectotype designated by Holloway and Thomas 2002], a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Autoloxolichas stmathiae by Phleger (1936); it was recombined as Platylichas stmathiae by Öpik (1937); it was recombined as Platylichas sanctaemathiasae by Tripp (1957); it was recombined as Autoloxolichas sanctamathiae by Thomas and Holloway (1988) and Holloway and Thomas (2002).
