Tayassuini was named by Dutra et al. (2017) [Name attributed to Palmer 1897, but Palmer 1897 only uses the family name, Tayassuidae, which is also used in this paper.]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Tayassuinae by Dutra et al. (2017).
