Eiffelia was named by Walcott (1920) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 219,1006]. Its type is Eiffelia globosa. It is the type genus of Eiffeliidae.
It was assigned to Heteractinida by Sepkoski (2002); to Eiffeliidae by Finks et al. (2004) and Skovsted (2006); and to Calcarea by Bambach et al. (2007).
