Trionyx austerus
Taxonomy
Aspideretes austerus was named by Hay (1908). Its type specimen is AMNH 6068, a partial shell (the nuchal except the central portion, part of both first costals, the greater part of a right posterior costal, probably the sixth, various fragments of costal), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is west of Chaco Canyon, Ojo Alamo (AMNH), which is in a Campanian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.
It was recombined as Aspideretoides austerus by Sullivan et al. (2012); it was recombined as Trionyx austerus by Vitek and Joyce (2015).
