It was assigned to Percoidei by Agassiz (1835); to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Serranidae by Arambourg (1927), Pauca (1929), Danil'chenko (1960), Jerzmanska (1968), Heinrich (1969), Stinton and Nolf (1970), Danil'chenko (1980), Steurbaut (1984) and Argyriou (2022).
