Porosteognathus was named by Vjuschkov (1952). It is not extant. Its type is Porosteognathus efremovi.
It was assigned to Scylacosauridae by Battail and Surkov (2000); to Scymnosaurinae by Tatarinov (2008); and to Lycosuchidae by Ivakhnenko (2011).
