Vomeropsis was named by Heckel (1853) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l Sepkoski's reference number: 746,771]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carangidae by Carnevale et al. (2014) and Bannikov (2014).
