Buglossidium was named by Chabanaud (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 503]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Pleuronectiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Soleidae by Nolf and Steurbaut (1983), Steurbaut (1984) and Girone et al. (2006).
