Gibbula optabilis was named by Carpenter (1864). It is extant.

It was recombined as Margarita optabilis by Arnold (1903); it was recombined as Margarites (Lirularia) optabilis by Oldroyd (1925); it was recombined as Pupillaria optabilis by Woodring and Bramlette (1950); it was recombined as Margarites optabilis by Kanakoff and Emerson (1959); it was recombined as Lirularia optabilis by Hendy (2021).
