Hippoglossoides was named by Gottsche (1835) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pleuronectinae by David (1943); to Pleuronectiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pleuronectidae by Fierstine et al. (2012).
