Eoplectus was named by Tyler (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l Sepkoski's reference number: 746]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Tetradontiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eoplectidae by Tyler and Santini (2002), Santini and Tyler (2003), Carnevale et al. (2014) and Bannikov (2014).
