Paraptychopyge disputa was named by Fortey (1975). Its type specimen is PMO NF 2488, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Lachnostoma disputa by Fortey and Bruton (2013) and Fortey et al. (2024).
