Orthis (Finkelnburgia) finkelnburgi was named by Walcott (1905). It is the type species of Orthis (Finkelnburgia).

It was recombined as Finkelnburgia finkelnburgi by Freeman and Stitt (1996) and Hansen and Holmer (2011).
