Mastotherium hyodon was named by Fischer (1814) [mastodonte de cordilleres (by Cuvier, 1806)]. It is a 3D body fossil.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Cisneros (2005); it was recombined as Cuvieronius hyodon by Marshall and Sempere (1991), Shoshani and Tassy (1996), Christiansen (2007), Lucas (2008) and Mothé et al. (2016).
