Taxonomy
Wesmaelius makarkini was named by Yang et al. (2018). Its type specimen is CNU-NEU-QZ2017001, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Caergen Village, Duohemao Town, Zeku County, which is in a Burdigalian lacustrine shale in the Garang Formation of China.
