Ogygia producta was named by Hall and Whitfield (1877).

It was recombined as Bathyuriscus productus by Walcott (1886), Miller (1889), Pack (1906) and Grabau and Shimer (1910); it was recombined as Niobe producta by Brogger (1886); it was recombined as Dolichometopus productus by Walcott (1916), Walcott (1916) and Resser (1928); it was recombined as Glossopleura producta by Resser (1935), Palmer (1954) and Foster (2022).
