Cytheridea garretti was named by Howe and Chambers (1935) [as Cytheridea ? garretti]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Keyser Hill, which is in an Oligocene marginal marine horizon in Alabama.
It was recombined as Cytheridea (Clithrocytheridea) garretti by Stephenson (1936).
