Taxonomy
Ceratodus nirumbee was named by Frederickson and Cifelli (2017). Its type specimen is OMNH 34765, a partial skull (a complete right prearticular plate), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is OMNH locality V1061, which is in an Albian terrestrial horizon in the Cloverly Formation of Montana.

Cifelli 2017A tall-crested, medium-sized ceratodontid most closely resembling C. fossanovum, differing in the extreme mesial placement of Ruge’s Ridge; ridge crests more distinct, particularly near area of common origin, with narrower crest Cp and better developed C 3 -C p notch; and a more angulate, less rounded posterolingual margin.
