Taxonomy
Anacharsis was named by Bogachev (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 746]. It is not extant. Its type is Anacharsis orbus. It was considered monophyletic by Mchedlidze (1964).

It was assigned to Delphinidae by Bogachev (1956), Mchedlidze (1964), Carroll (1988) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Cetacea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Delphinida by Murakami et al. (2014).
