Taxonomy
Pelecanus punctatus was named by Sparrman (1786). It is extant.

It was recombined as Stictocarbo punctatus by Worthy (1998) and Worthy and Grant-Mackie (2003); it was recombined as Phalacrocorax punctatus by del Hoyo et al. (2014) and Clements et al. (2017).
