Taxonomy
Pelecanus carunculatus was named by Gmelin (1789). It is extant.

It was recombined as Leucocarbo carunculatus by Worthy (1998), Worthy and Grant-Mackie (2003) and del Hoyo et al. (2014); it was recombined as Phalacrocorax carunculatus by Clements et al. (2017).
