It was assigned to Squalodontidae by Siryk and Dubrovo (1970), Dubrovo (1971), Carroll (1988) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Platanistoidea by Fordyce and de Muizon (2001); to Cetacea by Sepkoski (2002); to Odontoceti by Fordyce (1994) and Geisler and Sanders (2003); and to Odontoceti by Tanaka and Fordyce (2014).
