Taxonomy
Tringa lobata was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type species of Lobipes.

It was recombined as Lobipes lobatus by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1956), Campbell (1976) and Campbell (1979); it was recombined as Phalaropus lobatus by Hay (1902), Zelenkov et al. (2008), Guthrie (2010), Steadman et al. (2015), Clements et al. (2017) and Watanabe et al. (2020).
