Taxonomy
Strix scandiaca was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant.

It was recombined as Nyctea scandiaca by Harrison (1987) and Bedetti and Pavia (2007); it was recombined as Bubo scandiaca by Mlikovsky (2002); it was recombined as Bubo scandiacus by Clements et al. (2017) and Carrera et al. (2018).
