Taxonomy
Nileus lineatus was named by Angelin (1854). Its type specimen is RM No. Ar. 15368 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Gyrometopus.

It was recombined as Diaphanometopus lineatus by Tjernvik (1956); it was recombined as Gyrometopus lineatus by Jaanusson (1975).
