Taxonomy
Falco polyosoma was named by Quoy and Gaimard (1824). It is extant.

It was recombined as Buteo polyosoma by Campbell (1976) and Campbell (1979); it was recombined as Geranoaetus polyosoma by Adams and Woods (2016) and Clements et al. (2017).
