Taxonomy
Spisula capayana was named by Vokes (1939) [described by Vokes based on two syntypes]. Its type specimen is UCMP 15714-15715 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP 1817, Urruttia Canyon-Salt Creek, which is in a Ypresian deep-water shale in the Lodo Formation of California.
It was recombined as Mactromeris capayana by Moore (2003) and Hendy (2020).
